DiGi rings in RM448.7m net profit in Q3, dividend 5.7 sen
KUALA LUMPUR: DiGi.Com Bhd’s earnings rose 42.2% to RM448.70mil in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2013 from RM315.37mil a year ago fuelled by stronger prepaid service revenue and Internet revenue.
Announcing the set of stellar results on Monday, it said revenue rose 7.4% to RM1.699bil from RM1.572bil. Earnings per share were 5.77 sen. It rewarded shareholders with a third interim dividend tax exemption (single-tier) dividend of 5.7 sen per share.
DiGi’s chief executive officer Henrik Clausen said the revenue was fuelled by stronger prepaid service revenue, from a larger subscriber base of 10.8 million customers. Internet revenue continued to deliver solid growth, increasing 52.4% to RM320 million from the corresponding quarter last year.
The company completed its nationwide network modernisation exercise and equipped its network nationwide with HSPA+. This saw it exceeding the rollout of its 3G footprint to 76.1% from approximately 60% a year ago, while driving continuous improvements on network quality and customer focus throughout the organisation.
“Data is a significant growth area for DiGi,” said Clausen. “Our internet customers have increased steadily from 5.8 million a year ago to almost 6.8 million today.
“With the final completion of our network modernisation nationwide, we believe our customers will now be able to fully enjoy a network that delivers greater stability and quality, over a larger footprint,” he said.
For the nine months, its earnings rose 20.5% to RM1.157bil from RM960.19mil in the previous corresponding period. Revenue rose 5.6% to RM4.999bil from RM4.731bil.
